Mental Health

HS: Describe your mental health experience.

WP: I was in a junior year in high school when I was struggling with being depressed. Going to a new school and also preparing to apply to college was a lot on my plate. I wasn’t being social with my family and also rapid weight loss. My family was my main support to help me overcome being depressed.

HS: If you yourself suffer from a mental illness, how do you deal with it each day? What are some of the methods you use (i.e. meditation, talk therapy, medication, etc.)?

WP: I love to workout! Working out is my stress relief. If it wasn’t for me doing self-care and workouts I wouldn’t know where I will be.

HS: What does mental health mean to you?

WP: Mental health is a term that people should take seriously. Mental health is an issue that is overlooked and we should try to be there for each other. In the stressful world we live in, I believe the majority of society deals with anxiety and or depression.

HS: Why are you or why do you want to be an advocate for mental health?

WP: I want to be a voice for others. Which is I am working on my own clothing line called SylvesterSelah to be a voice for others and help people. I want to encourage others and let them know that they are not alone.

HS: How are you trying to end the stigma of mental health?

WP: I believe we should all be there for each other and be kind to one another as if we would like to be treated.

HS: Why should mental health be talked about within the community?

WP: Mental health should be talked about because it’s an issue that is overlooked in our society. We should start taking it very seriously.

HS: What are other resources you use to learn more about mental health?

WP: I love health line because they give out so much good advice and information.

HS: If you yourself don't suffer from mental health issues but know someone who does, how do you help them to fight their battles?

WP: I have friends who suffer from mental health issues. I myself have spoken to them about their issues. I have taken my friends to yoga sessions and also meditate with them.

HS: Is there anything else you'd like to share?

WP: Yes, my email is Parson837@gmail.com if anyone wants to reach out to me for help or advice.
